Verslag Friendly Match 8th July GB-Guests

‘door Istvan Gyori’

We have come to the conclusion of a fun filled season with great progress and loads of potential for the future. We ended off the season with a friendly game against Lord Wandsworth College on the 8th July at Leiden University.

This was an U/17 touring school team from England which made for an epic encounter. Due to the foundation of our academy, which focuses on the skill levels of the individual player, this would be quite a challenge for us as we don’t play together or train as team.

We were also fortunate enough to have our ‘Dutch South Africans’ visiting us which helped strengthen our line up for the day. We arranged to play 4 x quarters which gave us the oppertunity to give a number of our boys an oppertunity to play against quality opposition and to test all the skills that they have learnt the past year.

I must be honest and say that we struggled to gel as a team which was expected but the guys really showed guts to stay in the game. Once the opposition started to get tired, our boys picked up the pace and we managed to steal the game away for the opposition in the last 5 minutes of the last quater.

A number of boys really showed that they are hungry for professionalism and with continuous hard work and commitment these goals could be reached one day.

We as academy coaches are proud of the progress we have witnessed but we know that we can bring out even more if we continue to push our players. With great future plans and programmes in place these achievements can be reached.
